UTAS Home › Information Technology Services › Service Desk › Remote access to University network drives
The following page gives you instructions on how to access the main University drives from outside the University network. These drives are known within the University as the P:, N:, S: and R: Drives. The process is done in two stages, first installing and configuring a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client and then running a batch script to map the drives.
The University already has comprehensive documentation detailing both the installation and configuration of VPN Software. This can be found at the following site: VPN Software.
Download the file below to your computer:
Once you have downloaded the file unzip the contents to your desktop by moving the contents of the zip archive to your desktop, double click to run. Once the script has opened follow the prompts to map the required network drives.
Note you only need to download the file from this site once. Note also that access to these files is going to be slower than within the University and based on the speed of your internet connection. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact the IT Service Desk.
Below is a list of the drives and what they connect to that this script is capable of mapping to:
| N Drive | University staff share |
| P Drive | University staff and student personal share |
| R Drive | University research share |
| S Drive | University Finance and Administration share |
Please note that education staff and students do not use the typical University network drives. Please go to the following website for instructions on how to connect remotely to these drives: Education VPN Page
