Sun Messaging Server
The use of Sun Messaging Server, and the associated webmail front
end (Communications Express) was implemented at UTAS on 28th June, 2009. This system provides an internal mechanism for setting
forwards and vacation which is accessed from the Communications
Express webmail interface.
You can access Sun Messaging Server to read your email in one of
two ways:
-
Via Communications Express webmail interface, or
-
Via another client, such as Eudora or Microsoft Outlook.
Regardless of which of these two methods you use to read your
email, setting your forward/vacation must be done from within the
Communications Express webmail interface.
If you are using a software email client such as Eudora or Microsoft
Outlook with Sun Messaging Server, you must exit this application
prior to logging into the Communications Express interface to manage
your forward/vacation settings.
ACCESSING YOUR EMAIL FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE WHILE SETTING FORWARDS OR VACATION MESSAGES CAN LEAD TO CORRUPTION OF YOUR EMAIL.
Mail Forwarding:

-
CLOSE ANY EMAIL CLIENT LIKE EUDORA
OR OUTLOOK THAT YOU ARE USING TO ACCESS MAIL.
-
Log in to Communications Express Web Page using the UTAS
Webmail page http://webmail.utas.edu.au.
-
Click 'Options', then 'Mail', then 'Settings'.
-
Scroll down the page then use the controls in the Mail
Forwarding Area to enable/disable forwarding and manage your mail
forwarding list.
| You should tick the checkbox next to "Do not leave copy on server". If you do not, mail will accumulate in your account on the webmail server until your quota is reached. When you reach your quota, no further email will be delivered to you. |
-
Click 'Save' to apply your chosen setting.
-
You must wait at least 15 minutes for these changes to take
effect. Testing your forward sooner than the 15 minute grace period
will lead to unreliable results.
