Our staff are passionate about teaching Sociology and Criminology. We have a reputation for high-quality research and publications, as well as professional connections with agencies and practitioners working at the coalface.
The Sociology teaching program at the University of Tasmania is among the top 5 in Australia.
Our Criminology teaching program has two key strengths – we are national leaders in the area of applied criminology pertaining to juvenile and adult offenders; and we have an international reputation as key proponents of eco-global criminology, an area of research and scholarship that deals with issues of social and environmental justice.
Read Sociology PhD candidate Brendan Churchill's article in the Guardian: What's on offer for young Australians this election? Apparently nothing. Politicians should look beyond the 'likes', tweets and shameless selfies and engage with Gen Y voters in a more meaningful way.
