Cameron Forbes has been Foreign Editor, Europe Correspondent and Asia Correspondent for the Age and Washington Correspondent for the Australian. He has covered wars, civil wars and rebellions in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Burma, Sri Lanka, Bougainville, the Philippines and Rwanda. He has had a long interest in Aboriginal Affairs. He has won the Perkin Award for Australian Journalist of the Year, the United Nations Association Media Peace Award and the Canadian Award for International Reporting. In 2010 he received the Walkley Award for the Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism.
His essays have been published in Best Australian Essays.
Since leaving full time journalism, he has written three books: Hellfire: The Story of Australia, Japan and the Prisoners of War; Under the Volcano: The Story of Bali; and The Korean War: Australia in the Giants' Playground, which has won the Fellowship of Australian Writers National Literary Award for Non-fiction.
He is contracted to write another book for Pan Macmillan and has begun research for Horseback, which will be the story of the horse (and the riders) in exploration, settlement and war.
