Gabi Mocatta is a postgraduate student in Journalism and has also tutored and lectured in Journalism at UTAS since 2010. Teaching responsibilities have included:
Gabi’s doctoral research examines media treatment of a current environmental controversy in Chile, the HídroAysen hydroelectric megaproject proposal for Patagonia. The research examines the mediatised conflict surrounding this case as it has unfolded since 2006. Gabi will be a Visiting Researcher at the University of Chile in Santiago during 2013.
Prior to joining UTAS, Gabi worked for 12 years as a newspaper and magazine features writer, contributing to publications including The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Moscow Times, The Russia Journal, The Johannesburg Sunday Times, The Mercury, Australian Geographic, Vacations & Travel, Australian Gourmet Traveller, NZ Adventure Magazine and Outback Magazine.
Gabi has also been an author for Lonely Planet guides, Insight Guides and the SBS World Guide. She has co-authored or contributed to 14 books. She is still a regular contributor to BBC Travel online. See Gabi's website.
