Research Areas
Research Interests
Fiona’s Honours thesis provided a comparative critical discourse analysis of populist mainstream and Aboriginal representations of the Northern Territory Emergency Response in 2007. She found that race played a decisive role in the interpretation and representation of Aboriginal Australians within media construction. Her analysis highlighted the existence of a significant racialised divide in understandings of the issues facing remote Aboriginal Northern Territory communities in 2007.
Fiona is currently researching how housing officers within different sectors of the social housing system, understand the relationship between their racialised identity and their professional practice in an intercultural context, especially in relation to Indigenous service users.
