Peter Wells' research interests include the social production of space and the relationship between capitalism, hegemony, and the environment. His PhD research forms part of an ARC Discovery Grant (DP130102154) with Bruce Tranter and Libby Lester on ‘Leadership and the Construction of Environmental Concerns in Australia.’
This research examines the nature and scope of environmental leadership in Tasmania and their role in constructing and propagating environmental issues, both historically and presently, in a movement that is being actively contested, rationalised and colonised by capital, and how the media operates in tandem with these leaders to both legitimise and delegitimise particular ideas of what constitutes 'environmental' ideas, themes, or behaviours.
