PhD Candidature
Tristan is a PhD Candidate in the School of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Tasmania.
His thesis is focused on the material relations between nature, technology and culture. He is particularly interested in exploring the formatting of behavioural ideological, or normative patterning of behaviour; the commodification of those material relations; and the bureaucratic, social and political re-organisations that occur through the inter-sociality of this natural-techno-socio network.
His research negotiates these relational networks, ethnographically, through three case studies. The first looks into the recent policies on climate change in Australia, the second into the greening of urban landscapes, and the third into the marketisation of carbon.
While being empirically grounded, Tristan’s research is expected to redefine and add greater theoretical depth to Posthumanist literature, in areas such as: ‘cyborgs’, ‘agency’, ‘natureculture’, ‘technological evolution’, ‘climate change’, ‘AN-T methodology’, ‘ontology’, and ‘constructivist’/’determinist’ debates.
