The Housing and Community Research Unit (HACRU) is an affiliate member of Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI). The unit produces socially relevant and policy-oriented research on housing, urban and community issues, and is core funded by the state housing authority, Housing Tasmania.
The Unit acts as a focus for researchers, both within the university and outside, working on these issues. In addition to research for AHURI, the Australian Research Council (ARC) and other government and NGO research funders. The unit periodically organises seminars and offers the possibility for members of the policy-making community, related organisations and wider public to attend.
As well as reports and academic research articles the Unit provides an ongoing series of occasional discussion and research papers on a wide range of housing urban issues.
The work of the unit is centred on housing, urban and community issues, within this broad remit there is a focus on the following areas:
