The School of Social Sciences is a leading international centre of excellence in interdisciplinary and applied social research.
Our research intersects with the University of Tasmania’s research themes of Creativity Culture, and Society; Better Health; Data, Knowledge and Decision Making; and Environment, Resources and Sustainability.
Research in the School is broadly focused on the application of social science theories, methods and concepts to social and policy issues. Research strengths include crime and justice, housing and community, the environment, risk, social inclusions, migration and ethnicity, health and medicine, sport, tourism, leisure, gender and masculinities and global and national governance.
Food, Media and the Public
Dr Michelle Phillipov is an expert in media and communications. Her work is concerned with the meanings we derive from cultural representations and practices. She is exploring how the media is shaping our relationship with food, and in particular, what this means for food producers.
