Advanced practice courses are designed for social work practitioners who want to undertake further study at the postgraduate level. To be eligible for entry to the courses, candidates must have a recognised degree in social work from an accredited tertiary education institution. These courses provide important tools for practitioners who want to consolidate or update their professional knowledge and practice for the purposes of career advancement, professional development or interest. They also provide social work practitioners with the opportunity to engage in productive discussion and analysis of their practice and agency experiences within a supportive and collegial environment.
The Graduate Certificate in Social Work (Advanced Practice) is taught on the Launceston campus, and is a minimum one-year part-time course, comprising two units, with one unit being taught in each of semesters 1 and 2. Mid-year entry is available. Fieldwork placements are not undertaken in this course.

Undertaking this course will enable social work practitioners to enhance their knowledge and practice at an advanced level. It is intended to provide social work practitioners with an innovative model for reflective practice and to increase competence in a range of social work fields and methods. The importance of locating social work practice in the political and organisational context is emphasised.
This course is taught on the Launceston campus. Students will complete the course by part-time study on the basis of one unit per semester for two years, and in year three will prepare and submit a minor thesis for examination. Mid-year entry is available. Fieldwork placements are not undertaken in this course.
