Social Work programs re-accredited by AASW

Both of the professional social work programs at UTAS, the Bachelor of Social Work and the professional qualifying Masters of Social Work, have recently been re-accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers for a further five years. The professional Social Work programs at UTAS were highly commended by the AASW for their quality, comprehensiveness and innovation in delivery.

Success with two AHURI grant awards

Congratulations to Dr Michelle Gabriel, who has been awarded $121,000 for a project investigating the housing needs of people with dementia, and Dr Daphne Habibis, who has received $148,000 for a project investigating emerging models of tenancy management in remote Aboriginal communities.

Two successful recipients within the School of UTAS REGS awards

Congratulations to Drs Sonya Stanford and Meredith Nash for their UTAS REGS award successes.

Sonya's project is entitled 'Reducing Vulnerability to Suicide: Exploring the Situated Contexts of Professionals' Optimistic and Pessimistic Approaches to Suicide Risk Assessment'.

Meredith's project is entitled 'Remembering Mothers; Photography and Tasmanian Cultural Memory'.

Stephen Crook Memorial Prize 2012

Congratulations to Professor Rob White, who has been awarded the Stephen Crook Memorial Prize at the recent Brisbane conference of the Sociological Association of Australia for the best sociology book published in the past two years (2010-2011).

Two ARC grants - Social futures and life pathways of young people in Queensland; and Leadership and the construction of environmental concerns in Australia

Congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Bruce Tranter for his success in achieving these grants.

ARC grant ($3.2 million) for National Indigenous Research and Knowledges Network success

UTAS has been named a founding member of this network. Congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Maggie Walter, who will be the Deputy Director, and who will establish the first node of the network at UTAS.
