Students can enrol to do the Bachelor of Social Work on the Cradle Coast.
The BSW can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis. The degree comprises the equivalent of four years of full-time university study. The first two years comprise foundation Arts subjects or their equivalent, including two units each of sociology and psychology. These can be undertaken on the Cradle Coast although some students may prefer to enrol in subjects that are offered by distance education. The last two years (year 3 and 4) of the BSW comprise five intensive social work subjects each year. Students with existing degrees are also able to enter the BSW, upon approval, in year 3. Click here to access the University Handbook Entry for more information about the pre-requisites for the BSW.
In both years 3 and 4, most of the teaching happens within students' regions. So as a Cradle Coast student you will do most of your studies on the Cradle Coast. The exception is that in first semester you will need to attend classes in Launceston one day per week for 13 weeks. Second semester comprises a professional Fieldwork practicum which you can do within your region (subject to availability). Inter-state and international placements are also possible.
