University Central Orientation Program for New Staff

When you start in a new workplace there is a lot to take in: - people, information, a new environment. To help you find your way, there is a program of seminars and meetings, run on both the Hobart and Launceston campuses.

  • The General Orientation Seminar is offered twice a year in Hobart and Launceston and once a year at the Cradle Coast campus. In this seminar, the Vice-Chancellor or the Provost will formally welcome you to the University. You will be provided with an understanding of the University's key priorities, and its history and structure and be welcomed by staff and student representatives. Over morning tea, you will chat with key service providers and other new staff at the popular University expo.

Cradle Coast Date to be advised


All new staff will be invited by email to the program, however you do not have to be a new staff to attend.

  • Research at UTAS

Research is a critical component of most academic appointments.  To help with the understanding of processes as well as the research culture a Research Induction Kit is provided to your Head of School as part of the workplace induction.

  • Orientation to Teaching and Learning at UTAS

    This semester you can also attend meetings with the Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CALT) in your school. Orientation to Teaching and Learning will be conducted by the CALT staff on a one to one basis. These meetings will be arranged at a time suitable to new staff and will be conducted in the relevant school.
