At UTAS we value student feedback. SERRU aims to improve the analysis, interpretation and presentation of external student data to better support the university community in taking on an evidence based approach to the enhancement of the quality of the student learning experience. The unit is responsible for undertaking the coordination and implementation of the following national surveys with its focus on different areas.
The surveys that we use at UTAS are:
These national surveys serve as a valuable indicator of quality improvement in the student experience at UTAS as well as serving as a comparator with other universities in Australia.
Australian Graduate Survey (AGS)
The AGS is conducted yearly and coordinated by Graduate Careers Australia. It is administered by each University in April and October. The survey consists 2 components:
For general information about the survey, please visit Graduate Careers Australia.
Australasian Survey of Student Engagement (AUSSE)
The AUSSE is an annual survey conducted each July and coordinated by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). First year and third year students are surveyed on their participation in activities and conditions linked with high quality learning and how institutions support student engagement.
For more information about the AUSSE, and its subsidiary surveys, please visit ACER.
University Experience Survey (UES)
The UES is a new survey (piloted in 2011) coordinated by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). The survey focuses on aspects of the student experience that are measurable and that are linked with learning and development outcomes. This survey is anticipated to be conducted annually with first and final year undergraduate students.
International Student Barometer (ISB)
The ISB is a survey that is conducted and coordinated by the International Graduate Insight Group on an annual basis. Institutions are given the opportunity to survey international students at different levels of study every April. The survey aims to find out how successful Australian institutions are in meeting the hopes and ambitions international students invest in their decision to study in Australia.
UTAS will participate in the ISB this year with a view to finding out the extent to which student expectations translate into a positive experience at our University.
The International Student Barometer (ISB) is the world’s largest student survey and is administered by the independent external research company i-graduate. The ISB has been adopted by over 160 institutions in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, continental Europe and the USA. It is now the largest study of international students in the world with feedback from over 250,000 students in the last 2 years.
