Justin Phillips has worked at the University of Tasmania for 21 years. Previously, he was involved in the development of the Management Information Reporting Unit (MIRU) which saw the creation of a data warehouse and the deployment of a range of business intelligence (BI) tools in order to create a range of senior management and other reports. Justin has provided a range of institutional advice on student administration; institutional reporting to meet federal government reporting; admissions and a wide range of data-related projects. He has represented the University on a National working party for new Applicant and Offer Data Submission and a national ITI Technical group.
Justin's main role in SERRU will be focusing on the enhancement of a broad range of reporting tools and data sets aimed at enhancing the capacity of UTAS senior management and stakeholders to evaluate performance against goals. This major project includes the development of a new Learning and Teaching Dashboard. His current role operates quite broadly across data and statistical reporting areas with its main focus being on student related areas. The introduction of a new University Student System in 2013 will provide a number of major challenges in ensuring the further development of a wide range of sources of key data for stakeholders and will entail a significant role in the mitigation of the risks which are involved in major organizational changes.
