A 2009 UK Higher Education Academy (HEA) report on reward and recognition, as well as internationally recognised work at the University of Wollongong on promotions criteria and peer review of teaching-related activities, informed this report.
The project aimed to produce resources to guide and improve academic promotion policy and practice to reflect the recognition of teaching as core to the assurance of standards in higher education. The project was collaborative, involving two British universities (University of Leicester and University of Newcastle upon Tyne) and two Australian universities (University of Tasmania and University of Wollongong). It included the development of a Good Practice Framework as a key deliverable to self-review, and to share and compare promotions policies and processes that can be applied across the Australian and UK HE sectors.
Further information on the project and additional resources are available at: http://www.promoteteaching.com/index.html and the HEA website.
This research was funded by the HEA.
