The Student Learning and Academic Development team within the Student Centre brings together student learning support for all students, international and domestic, enrolled in degree programs. The team provides a range of services and programs that complement each other and aim to facilitate excellence in learning for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The team provides both generic academic skill and English language support as well as the embedding of academic skills development and English language skills within the disciplines through unit and course‐based workshops and programs and involvement in strategic projects.
Our team comprises a diverse range of academic and professional staff with expertise across learning and teaching, academic skills development, English language teaching (specifically academic and discipline‐specific English language learning and development), peer learning, and numeracy development. Contact us to discuss support for students enrolled in your courses and units. For support for your Learning and Teaching practice, contact the Tasmanian Institute for Learning & Teaching (TILT) on 6226 7251 or calt.hobart@utas.edu.au.
Individual consultations provide an opportunity for one-to-one identification of needs and development of appropriate skills and strategies, and work best when students make contact with us early in the semester.
Student Learning consultations foster ongoing development of academic skills (such as referencing, critical reading and assignment planning and writing), numeracy, and English language and literacy skills. The way we work with students is developmental; we help them to identify and develop specific skills and strategies for academic success. We work with any student enrolled in a degree program; international, domestic, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD).
To refer students for an individual consultation, you can suggest the student contact us directly by emailing Student.Learning@utas.edu.au. Alternatively, you may wish to make a referral by emailing us the students details, and we will then contact them. It is of course up to the individual student whether or not they take up the support, and the content of our sessions with the student is confidential.
