Having a consultation session online in our web room is a bit like being face to face. We can talk to each other using microphones and headphones and see each other by using webcams. We will be able to share ideas, view and edit documents and many other things that you can normally only do in a face-to-face environment.
Please read all the information here carefully before your first web room consultation.
In a web room consultation your learning skills adviser can look at any documents you have emailed through and provide advice on areas such as assignment planning, academic writing, referencing, numeracy and English language skills.
Before your appointment, have your documents ready to email and share, student.learning@utas.edu.au These include:
If you have not used a web room before, have a read through this first
Before your appointment, we will email or phone you to set up a day and time to meet in the web room. An email will be sent including a link to the room and an invitation to the session.

We will be able to share ideas, view and edit documents and many other things that you can normally only do in a face-to-face environment. We use a web conferencing software called Collaborate for our web room. The web room will only work well if you take the time to set it up properly. Below are instructions on how you can do this. Please take the time to read and follow them carefully before your consultation. To participate in these sessions, you should do the following:
If you experience difficulties setting up your computer or accessing the web room, visit the Web Conferencing Support for Participants web page
You will then receive a request from your adviser, asking for control of the application sharing (this means they will have remote access to the document you are showing on the screen of our computer). Now you can both point to and write on your document! And, after the session, you can save any remarks written during the appointment.
If you’d like to see how a web room session looks, have a look at the video on this page.
