A graduate from the University of Tasmania, Jill has also studied at Boston College, Massachusetts in the US, as well as completing accreditation courses and professional development programs.
Jill has taught in a total of five primary and secondary schools for 35 years, 22 of them in senior leadership positions. She has taught at the UTas as a Learning Skills Adviser since 2009. She appreciates meeting a wide range of students in her tertiary role and relishes opportunities for her own lifelong learning across a variety of subjects.
As a Learning Skills Adviser, Jill is committed to furthering the standards of excellence to which the University aspires, particularly in the areas of academic writing, grammar and study skills. She values the opportunities to work with students and to see them grow in confidence and skills. Jill's creative skills are deployed in the development of resources, particularly helpsheets, to assist students in their academic development and essay writing. The enhancement of literacy, the development of language, and the process and enjoyment of reading have been long held interests for Jill.
At UTas, Jill has been involved in the UniStart program, a pilot program to support Associate Degree students, academic support for Police Studies and the Students on Film project. She has also delivered lectures and workshops, conducted research and volunteered for research projects. She particularly enjoys attending the Speaking Group sessions. Jill has also been involved in NAPLAN and Raising the Bar marking, and conducting workshops to volunteers at the Tasmanian Ambulance Service, as well as proofreading of theses, reports and publications.
Jill has always participated in a wide range of community activities, both locally and nationally, and she also has connections with several international communities.
