Morag's role as Associate Lecturer, Student Learning (English Language) is to facilitate the language and academic skills development of students at UTAS, with a particular focus on students for whom English is an additional language. As part of the Student Learning and Academic Development team, Morag develops and delivers programs and services to students. She collaborates with Faculties and Schools to enhance student learning and to promote the embedding of discipline-specific language and academic skills into units and courses.
Morag has over 15 years' professional teaching experience, both in Australia and overseas. Her experience covers tertiary literacy, English as an additional language and sessional teaching in Art Theory, and she has taught in universities, schools and factories. At Waseda University in Tokyo she led a team developing English language course materials, as well as being the head tutor for the Tutorial English Program.
Morag's Masters' thesis combined drawing and writing and addressed themes of subjectivity, language and femininity. Current research interests include English language proficiency development for students with English as an additional language, and the development of intercultural competence and communication skills for all students.
