In August 2011 The UTAS Conservatorium of Music will present Mozart’s The Magic Flute. There will be two versions of the production. The ‘mainstage’ production will be performed by professional actors and an orchestra and will be presented at the Theatre Royal, and post this season, an abbreviated ‘schools production’ will be presented at the Collegiate Performing Arts Centre.
The Magic Flute, Mozart’s final masterpiece, is a timeless, comedic, and ultimately redemptive tale of love, adventure, reconciliation and the quest for enlightenment. This ever-popular work has delighted audiences young and old for over two centuries with stratospheric arias, jolly folk tunes and profound music as Prince Tamino attempts to rescue the daughter of The Queen of the Night from the clutches of the Priest of the Sun.
Featuring the University of Tasmania Symphony Orchestra and a principal cast of professional opera singers from throughout Australia, this production also includes a new translation by Music Director, Myer Fredman and Direction by Victor Kazan.
