More than 270 students have been placed on the 2010 Faculty of Arts Dean’s Roll of Excellence.
The Dean’s Roll of Excellence recognises students studying an undergraduate degree who have achieved outstanding results for the year, receiving at least a grade average of distinction.
At a reception in the Uni Club, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Sue Dodds, acknowledged those students who had been placed on the Roll of Excellence.
“It is really important, as a Faculty, that we take the opportunity to celebrate student success and to acknowledge excellence. It is fantastic to be able to bring these students together – they form a bright and very promising cohort of students and we wish to encourage their further study,” Prof Dodds said.
Among those recognised for their outstanding performance were Adam Nebbs, Zoe Hindell and Emilie Clarke.
“I’m really excited. I feel like I have achieved what I came here to do. I have given it my all,” Adam said.
Adam was one of 14 students within the Faculty of Arts to receive the Dean’s Roll of Excellence with Honours after being on the roll for three years.
He is currently studying Honours in Sociology, and has been awarded an Arts Faculty Honours Scholarship. His thesis will focus on sadness among young people.
Both Zoe and Emilie found out about the Dean’s Roll of Excellence through word of mouth and used it for inspiration to keep their marks up. Although they were surprised to be recognised, they are both proud of their achievements.
“My family are really proud, particularly my Dad who works here, and happy that I am continuing on with my studies,” Zoe said.
Zoe graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts with majors in English and History. She is currently studying Honours in English. It is the second time Zoe has been placed on the Dean’s Roll of Excellence.
For Emilie, it is the first time on the Roll. Last year she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with majors in English and Ancient Civilisations, and is currently studying a Master of Teaching.
“It feels really good. It’s nice to be recognised for the work I put in to my studies,” Emilie said.
