Share your family pictures of pregnancy
A UTAS researcher is asking Tasmanians to dig out their photo albums share their family pictures of pregnancy.
Dr Meredith Nash, from the School of Social Sciences, is about to begin her latest research project: Remembering mothers: Photography and Tasmanian cultural memory
"The aim of the research is to see what Tasmanians do with family pictures of pregnancy and how they talk about them.
"This project will result in the creation of an online photo exhibition and analysis of different types of pregnancy images in Tasmania," Dr Nash said.
"This is important research because the exhibition will document and analyse how Tasmanian cultural memories of maternity have been created, preserved and changed since the end of World War II."
How the public can participate:
Dr Nash is looking for Tasmanians (who are at least 18 years old) who are willing to share their family photographs of pregnancy.
Participation would involve sharing up to five family photographs of pregnancy taken between 1945 and 2013.
"Participants are also invited to take part in an interview about their photos (although, this is not a requirement - participants can submit photos without being interviewed)," Dr Nash said.
Dr Nash’s most recent research project Picturing Pregnancy: A Photovoice Exhibition is currently on display at Morris Miller Library at UTAS. This exhibition of 20 photographs is the culmination of one year of photography and interviews with 12 pregnant Hobart women.
