Congratulations to GOTYA winners
Three graduates from the UTAS School of Architecture and Design have featured in the Design Institute of Australia’s Vic/Tas Graduate of the Year Awards held in Melbourne on Thursday (March 21).
Bachelor of Environmental Design Interior Design (Honours) alumnus Alice Dwyer and Bachelor of Environmental Design (Furniture Design) alumnus Matthew Smith won GOTYAs for their categories with Erin Lacey, also an interior design honours alumnus, runner-up in the interior design section.
Both Alice and Matthew have qualified for the national AGOTYA (Australasian Graduate of the Year Award) which will be announced in May.
UTAS Program Director for Interior Design Kirsty Máté said that the GOTYA is a very competitive award with the best graduating students from all of the design institutions in Victoria and Tasmania being assessed in a blind judging process on work from their graduating year, showing that UTAS design students are highly competitive with some of the best on the mainland.
“The school is very proud of this achievement especially as Alice and Erin are two of the first graduates from the Interior Design Honours degree,” she said.
“We look forward to following the careers of Alice, Erin and Matthew as we are sure they will be highly successful.”
GOTYA is a unique awards program created to support designers in the early stages of their career. Established by the Design Institute of Australia, the awards recognise excellence in emerging designers in the disciplines of interior design, interior design and decoration, industrial design, furniture design, jewellery design, fashion design, textile design and graphic design.
