Information for new students
Are you interested in learning something new with UTAS over the summer months, but not sure how to go about enrolling?
The following information should provide some assistance, or you may prefer to contact us for advice.
Planning to start a degree?
Submit an application for your preferred course via the online application system.
You can expect to hear from UTAS within a two week period (unless you are a year 12 student, in which case offers will not be made until after the final 2011 school results are released).
Once you receive an offer for a place in a degree, you can accept this offer and then join a Ready for Uni Workshop where UTAS staff will assist with general information, choosing the subjects to fit within your degree structure, completing your enrolment, and making sure you are ‘ready for uni’. Ready for Uni Workshops are offered on-campus and on-line.
Interested in one or two summer units but not a full degree?
If you already know what spring or summer unit you would like to undertake, you can complete an online application . Rather than applying for a Bachelor Degree, you should select an Associate Degree from the relevant faculty, or a Diploma.
For example, if you are interested in studying Sociology B, which is taught through the Faculty of Arts, you would apply for an Associate Degree in Arts. The Uni Info Centre team can provide assistance by telephone, email or in person.
Interested in taking part in the Tasmanian Creative Arts Summer School?
This program is a collaboration between UTAS and a number of other partners, and has a special application form that can be downloaded.
What is the cost of summer or spring school?
The tuition fees for university units vary according to the subject area.
A number of the foundation units taught in spring and summer semesters at UTAS are offered free of charge to eligible domestic students. The units in UPP are also offered at no cost to eligible students.
Fees for other units offered over the spring and summer semesters range between $680 and $1135, and are located on the unit listing in Course and Unit Handbook.
Most domestic students are able to defer the fee under the HECS system. To find out more about eligibility visit www.goingtouni.gov.au or contact the Uni Info Centre.
