Peter Lynch is a graduate of the Canberra School of Music (performance), Monash University (musicology) and The University of Melbourne (educational administration). He studied with the late Sadie Bishop, John Mills, John Duarte and Julian Byzantine and participated in masterclasses with Alirio Diaz and Oscar Ghiglia.
Peter Lynch has taught at the Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne and Melba Memorial Conservatorium and from 1999 to 2008 was Director of Murray Conservatorium. He has examined and adjudicated throughout much of Australia and as far afield as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and New Zealand and has recorded and performed with some of Australia’s finest musicians including Prudence Davis, Jeffrey Crellin and, most recently, flautist Jane Rayner for an all-Australian disc Cloud Eight: Australian Music for Flute and Guitar.
In 2007, Lynch’s research into the life of Australian violinist Gertrude Healy was recognised by way of an entry in Australian Dictionary of Biography while in 2008, he was one of two finalists in the Australian Music Centre/APRA 2008 Classical Music Awards in recognition of his “outstanding contribution to Australian music in a regional area [and his] inspired commitment to Australian music.”
“Lynch is a very persuasive performer and one is carried along by his musical thinking which is both decisive and fluent…a fine musician.” Guitar International (UK)
