Russell Gilmour has been involved the contemporary classical music scene in Australia for the past 25 or so years since graduating from the University of New England. His music has been performed by many of Australia’s leading orchestral and chamber ensembles, and numerous soloists. He has been for many years active as a music educator at primary, secondary and tertiary levels as well as being engaged in arts administration and publishing.
Russell has become perhaps best known for his two celebrated recording projects 'The Keating Tangos' (1999) and the award winning 'Whitlam Rags' (2003) involving pianist and composer Ian Munro as well as for the Gilmour Ensemble, whose recordings have become a staple of Drive time and Breakfast programming on ABC Classic FM since its formation in 2003. He is published by Reed Music, Orpheus Music, Currency Press and OHP. Several of his works appear across a range of pedagogical syllabuses.
