After leaving Stephen Kenyon was engaged as Co-principal Clarinettist with the Royal Australian Air Force Central Band at Laverton, Victoria. After being discharged from the RAAF Band his first orchestral engagement was as a casual player with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Returning to Sydney, he was appointed second Clarinettist with the Elizabethan Theatre Trust Orchestra. He then travelled to Germany and was appointed Principal Clarinettist with the Hamburg Symphoniker,Hamburg. During this period, he performed with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Opera house Orchestra as Second/Principal clarinettist and the Norddeutsche Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra. With Hamburg Symphoniker, he performed as soloist in a number of the major clarinet concerti.
Upon his return to Australia, he joined the Elizabetan Theatre Trust Orchestra in Sydney as Principal Clarinettist. He then returned to Europe and studied for 12 months with Valentine Sakharov, Principal Clarinettist with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and attended master classes with Andre Boutard, Principal Clarinettist with the Paris Opera.
Returning to Australia, he was appointed Principal Clarinettist with the Elizabethan Theatre Trust Orchestra Melbourne. With an interest in teaching, he left the Orchestra, and joined the Bendigo Musician Teacher Pilot Project playing in the Victorian Wind. He then returned to Sydney and took up the position as Head of Woodwind at Sydney Grammar School during which time he played chamber music and performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2011, he joined the University of Tasmania, Conservatorium of Music’s Woodwind Department.
