Christl Berg completed her MFA in 1992 and her PhD in 2004 at the Tasmanian School of Art, University of Tasmania, where she has taught at various periods between 1990 and 2009 on a casual basis. From 1994 – 2001 and 2004 - 2006 Christl was lecturer and head of Printmedia at the School of Visual and Performing Arts, University of Tasmania, Launceston. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1989 and is held in public collections including the National Gallery of Victoria; Artbank Australia; ANU, Canberra; University of Canberra; University of Western Sydney McArthur Collection; University of Tasmania; Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery; Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery; Burnie Regional Art Gallery.
Working with Photomedia, Christl explores ways of communicating experiences of being in the land, in locations. Using detail, fragments and close-up examinations of aspects of an environment, combined with an investigation into perceptions and representations of time, her images and assemblages aim to address her developing sense of place in Australia as immigrant.
