Research Interests

Lynne’s principal interests are in the development of cultural industries - increasing their significance to other areas professional practice, education and community engagement. Within the University, this includes developing partnerships with other Faculties and linking the University to external cultural opportunities. She is particularly interested in innovative approaches to private sector funding for arts and culture, including the developing areas of sponsorship and philanthropy, as well as trends in international, national State and Local Government direct and indirect funding for culture.

Career Summary

Lynne has worked in the cultural industries for her whole career. She was Director of Arts Tasmania from 1990 – 2007. In this role she represented Tasmania on Cultural Ministers Council Standing Committee and worked on many national projects, including the National Cultural Industries Roundtable. She is currently Deputy Chair of the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection and was founding Director of the Board of Ten Days on the Island from 1998-2008. Prior to her work in Government since 1986, she ran businesses in the private sector, primarily in Sydney, as a practicing artist, arts administrator and manager of art galleries and pottery and glass studios. Her link to the University of Tasmania commenced in 1984 when she established the Vocational Studies Unit at the Tasmanian School of Art.
