Units
Ruth Frost studied at the Tasmanian School of Art, University of Tasmania, completing her MFA in Photography in 1987. Between 1989 and 1995 she lectured in the Photomedia Workshop at the Canberra School of Art, ANU, before returning to Tasmania to work on her PhD. Her thesis, Memory’s Image was completed in 2002. She has exhibited widely in Australia, included solo shows in major metropolitan centres. Ruth Frost has taught at the Tasmanian School of Art since 2003.
Working between the disciplines of photography, digital imagery, video and sound, Ruth Frost’s chief research interest involves an exploration of the visual characteristics of the memory image. Other concerns include investigating ways of combining traditional photographic skills with digital manipulation, and approaches to a more hybrid form of image making that merges both still and moving imagery.
