Helen was appointed Lecturer in Theatre in 2009. She is currently Research Coordinator for the School.
Helen teaches acting (Fundamentals of Acting, Contemporary Acting Methods, CREATICS: Acting for Performance) and lectures in theatre/performance theory and history. She is responsible for directing the first-year production.
Helen has formulated and teaches CREATICS –an approach to actor-training, designed to enhance the actor’s creativity and presence in performance.
Helen is also involved in two major research projects investigating theatre in Tasmania: AusStage Phase 4 and the Launceston Theatre Project.
After graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Helen worked as an actor with some of Australia’s leading theatre companies in both Melbourne and Perth. Helen has also worked extensively in television.
Throughout her acting career, Helen has co-devised and generated new works, directed and taught.
Helen holds a Master of Arts in Theatre Practices (Edith Cowan University, Western Australia) and a PhD by thesis (The Creativity of Acting) from the University of Western Australia.
