Take a tour of TIA’s Forthside Vegetable Research Facility without getting your boots muddy!
Our virtual tour provides an opportunity to meet some of our researchers, view the facility, and find out about current projects to support Tasmania’s agriculture industry.
The Forthside Vegetable Research Facility is located on Tasmania’s picturesque North-West Coast. The 54-hectare facility was established in 1963 in response to industry demand and is currently run by the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture.
It received a major upgrade in 2012 including the installation of automated irrigation, new tractors with on-board guidance and data capture systems and adaption of controlled traffic farming as standard practice.
Our vision is for this facility to be a ‘technological sandpit’ and provide Tasmania’s agriculture sector an opportunity to develop their understanding of emerging agricultural technologies and how they can use the associated data to make more efficient on-farm decisions.
