  • Invited to Published by Palgrave McMillan Publishers
Dr Isabelle Bartkowiak-Théron was invited (and just finished a first draft) to write a chapter for a forthcoming book to be published early 2011 by Palgrave McMillan. The Policing in Practice book, Edited by Philip Birch (UNSW) and Victoria Herrington (CSU) brings together papers by academics, researchers and practitioners within the field of Criminology, Forensic Psychology and Law. The motivation for this work is the lack of comprehensive material within one referenced piece, which addresses the issues relating to the developments in academic education for newly recruited police officers. This collection adopts a multi-disciplinary, social scientific approach, drawing on practice, empirical research, documentary analysis and research review in policing practice. Chapters include discussions around working with the community on the broadest level as well as considering more specific engagements with society – for example working with victims and people who have learning disabilities – along with papers addressing specific policing practice roles and responsibilities, including reflective practice. All sections of the book, will give consideration to the integration of theory and practice – the central theme throughout the book – by drawing on practitioners’ reflections and examples of the application of theory in the field.
