Congratulations to New Graduates

Dr Kate Cashman and Dr Mithun Rajshekar graduated at the Hobart Summer Graduation Ceremonies in December 2017. The Institute is proud of Dr Cashman and Dr Rajshekar achieving such a significant goal in their careers, and wishes them a great future ahead.

Dr Kate CashmanDr Kate Cashman has successfully completed her PhD research thesis on Lawyers and DNA: Understanding and Challenging the Evidence, supervised by Assoc Prof Terese Henning (Faculty of Law), Assoc Prof Roberta Julian (TILES) and Dr Sally Kelty (Adjunct Researcher TILES/University of Canberra).

In addition to her teaching in the Faculty of Law and most recently at the Tasmania Police Academy, Kate was a valuable member on The Effectiveness of Forensic Science in the Criminal Justice System five-year ARC funded project, with Lead Chief Investigator Assoc Prof Roberta Julian. During her PhD studies, Kate also published and presented her research at national and international conferences, and in 2014 received an award for her oral presentation at the 22nd International Symposium on the Forensic Sciences held by the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society (ANZFSS) in Adelaide.

Dr Mithun Rajshekar has successfully completed his PhD research thesis on Application of 3D Scanning Technology in Forensic Investigation of Bite-marks, supervised by Assoc Prof Roberta Julian (TILES), Assoc Prof Leigh Blizzard (Menzies Institute for Medical Research, Tasmania) and Assoc Prof Anne-Marie Williams (School of Medicine).

While studying for his PhD, Mithun presented his research at several conferences, including the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society (ANZFSS) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology (ANZSOC). His latest research was published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health. In 2016, Mithun received the Forensic Sciences Foundation (FSF) Henry C. Lee Scholarship at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) 68th Annual Scientific Meeting in Las Vegas. The scholarship was awarded for his best paper, 'Assessing the Reliability of Measurements of Human Dental Casts Using an Intraoral 3D Scanner'. Prior to pursuing his PhD studies, Mithun completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree and Masters in Forensic Sciences (Odontology). Mithun’s other passion is photography and his photographic skills have been recognised locally with some of his photos published in local magazines.
