Tasmanian Institute of Law Enforcement Studies (TILES)

Institute Supports Workshop on Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement Officers

Associate Professor Roberta Julian and Dr Isabelle Bartkowiak-Théron attended the presentation by Dr Kevin Gilmartin on 'Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement Officers', held in Launceston at the Sir Raymond Ferrell Centre, Newnham Campus (UTAS) on 21st February. It was organised and hosted by the Police Association of Tasmania with support from TILES.

The event was very well attended by police members and their families from the Western and Northern districts. Dr Gilmartin presented a lively and interesting workshop that provided valuable information for the audience. All those attending received a copy of his book 'Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement' (donated by Police Health) (www.emotionalsurvival.com).

Director of TILES, Associate Professor Julian thanked Mr Pat Allen, President of the Police Association of Tasmania, for this unique opportunity to support and attend this interesting workshop.

"Thank you for allowing myself and one of the TILES researchers to attend. One of our key areas of research at TILES is 'Vulnerability, Resilience and Policing' which addresses issues of vulnerability among police officers as well as vulnerable populations in the community", she said.

The Vulnerability, Resilience and Policing Research Consortium (VRPRC) was established in 2014, and this research concentration is led by Dr Isabelle Bartkowiak-Théron and Associate Professor Nicole Asquith.
