CLMP project (Akari)

Curriculum Lifecycle, Management and Publication Project (CLMP)

Akari is now live. Visit the Akari web page for full details, or log in here.

What is it?

The Curriculum Lifecycle, Management and Publication (CLMP) Project is rolling out Akari Curriculum. Akari Curriculum will provide a solution that encompasses:

  • Deployment of a single repository for curriculum data within the University.
  • Establishment of sustainable and manageable business practices and processes governing academic development, renewal, approval, publishing, configuration and reporting of University curriculum.

When is it coming?

Akari launched in a ‘soft Go Live’ phase on 24 September. Users in this phase are a select group of our Change Champions (who we’re calling SuperUsers) who will/have been using the system to submit new and amended curriculum through the approval processes. Their hands-on use of the system allows them to provide feedback to improve the product before the full roll out in early 2019.

The medium term plan for the project is to train all relevant curriculum-based staff before the start of Semester 1 2019.

What’s in it for me?

Provides a master repository for curriculum data – Akari will not only provide a master repository for publication and analysis purposes, but also to integrate with downstream University systems in a ‘collect once, reuse many times’ approach.

The Course and Unit Approval Process will be digitised – Akari will improve the flow of documentation for course and unit proposals, approvals and amendments to ensure compliance with quality assurance processes through the utilisation of drafting, editing and electronic workflow capabilities.

Establishment of a central repository for the mapping of Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) and assessment methods – Akari can assist with the mapping of course and unit level ILOs to learning activities, and assessment items and methods through the curriculum hierarchy, allowing for deep analysis of curriculum content (including change scenarios and periodic review) and to ensure that assessment is clearly aligned with the achievement of learning outcomes.

Provides course monitoring, reporting and review cycle and curriculum auditing – Akari will assist in ensuring compliance with internal review cycles and external accreditation events through scheduled review workflows. Akari will also form the repository for annual course and unit reporting requirements, including changes triggered by student feedback and peer reviews, and will assist teaching teams to identify areas of the curriculum that require renewal.

Provides publishing of course and unit information – Akari will ensure the approved curriculum (along with descriptive content) is displayed on University websites for consumption by a range of audiences, and that course and unit information can coexist with marketing information with differing review cycles.

Will training be provided?

Training will be provided to all staff who participate in the UAT and the September ‘Go Live’ phases of the project through a ‘train the trainer’ approach. It is envisaged that these staff members will then be able to train other relevant staff with support from the Project Team, staff from the Tasmanian Institute of Learning and Teaching (TILT) and easy to understand ‘how-to’ guides.
