UTAS to provide collection points for bushfire appeal donations
Non-perishable food items and children’s necessities sought on behalf of Vinnies
In support of the Tasmanian bushfire appeal, the University of Tasmania is providing collection points and storage for donations of non-perishable food items and infant and children's necessities (nappies, baby food etc). Children's book and toy donations are also welcome.
University students and staff, and the local community are welcome to drop off donations at these collection points from Wednesday 9 January 2013. The collection is being made on behalf of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
The collection points will be open from 12-2pm, Monday to Friday, until 18 January. Collection points are located as follows:
UTAS, Sandy Bay campus (southern Tasmania)
Law Seminar Room 1, Room 131 (level 1), Law Building
Access from driveway off Grosvenor Street
UTAS, Newnham campus (northern Tasmania)
Property Services Building (building number T8), Map Room
Aquaculture Road
An attendant will be present at each collection point to assist in lifting, sorting and stacking.
UTAS was also able to provide emergency accommodation last weekend at the Sandy Bay campus for some 80 evacuees, many of whom had spent the previous night sleeping on the ground in the open.
University accommodation in Hobart and Launceston has also been offered to interstate fire crews and will remain available to those in need.
