Winning runner focussed on studies
Stawell Gift winner sets his sights on a career as an early childhood teacher
A UTAS student who won the richest running race in Australia on Monday says his first priority in life is to finish his Bachelor of Education degree.
Andrew Robinson, 20, is in the second year of his degree at the Newnham campus and is focussed on becoming an early childhood teacher.
On Easter Monday he won the coveted Stawell Gift, worth $40,000 which he says he will use to buy a new car then maybe pay off some HECS debt.
When the furore of his win dies down, Andrew will discuss his running future with his Hobart-based coach, Ray Quarrell.
“Training for the Olympics would be a lot of hard work,” he said. “I want to finish what I’ve started and have a career as a teacher.”
