Travelling THINKtent recognised in Creative Partnerships Australia awards

Assoc Prof Cica hosts a Launceston THINKtent session

An inventive travelling tent has won the University of Tasmania’s Inglis Clark Centre for Civil Society - in partnership with Tasmanian design practice Liminal Spaces -good practice recognition in the Creative Partnerships Australia awards.

THINKtent, an intimate, decorated space for thinking, talking and listening, is among the projects recognised in the Toyota Community Award category of the State awards.

The project was a collaboration between the Director of the Inglis Clark Centre, Associate Professor Natasha Cica and Peta Heffernan of Liminal Spaces, working with Professor Keith Jacobs from the School of Social Sciences. The project also involved Simon Ancher from the School of Architecture and Design and Rachael Rose, Keeper of the University’s Fine Arts Collection.

Ms Heffernan is a co-director of Liminal Architecture, which was recently appointed Principal Consultant for the new Academy of Creative Industries and Performing Arts (ACIPA) project in Hobart’s CBD.

THINKtent appeared in Burnie, Launceston and at MONA during the Ten Days on the Island festival in March this year.

The Inglis Clark Centre also contributed to the work recognised in the Creative Partnerships Australia award conferred on the Australian Innovation Research centre’s Polly McGee in relation to Island magazine, specifically by supporting and collaborating on The Tasmanian Papers essay series.

Another new creative partnership is the Ridgeline Residency, involving the Inglis Clark Centre, Island and Ridgeline Pottery. This is also supported by Griffith REVIEW and Tasmania’s Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts.

The inaugural Ridgeline resident is Jessica White, who recently spent a fortnight at Ridgeline Pottery at South Arm, writing about the 19th-century botanist Georgina Molloy.

Island will launch its 134th issue in both the North and South of the state this weekend (Launceston art space Sawtooth ARI on Saturday 21 September, 2pm; Moonah Arts Centre on Sunday 22 September, 2pm). These events are free but RSVPs are essential: http://islandmag134-eorg.eventbrite.com/
