University community saddened by loss of former student

Ross Langdon

The University community has been shocked and saddened by news of the deaths of former student Ross Langdon and his partner Elif Yavuz.

Mr Langdon was a former UTAS Bachelor of Environmental Design student. The pair was among those killed during the recent terrorist attack on a Nairobi shopping mall.

Both had been involved in humanitarian projects in East Africa for several years, with Mr Langdon's architectural practice, Regional and Associates, designing and constructing a series of award-winning buildings in local communities that address issues of environmental and social sustainability.

UTAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Rathjen said “on behalf of the University community, I would like to express our deepest sympathies to Ross and Elif’s families.”

Counselling services are available at the University for staff and students.
