The role

The Underwood Centre Director has a pivotal role as a champion for educational attainment and aspiration. The Director brings together academics, educators, professionals, employer groups, and communities to generate transformative solutions to educational challenges.

The Director:

  • leads programs that inspire children, young people, and their parents, guardians and communities to embrace education as a life-long key to flourishing
  • enables and supports education workforce development
  • leads research to understand and embed transformations needed to increase educational attainment

To achieve these goals, the Director:

  • works closely with the University's senior executive, and with the Centre's Advisory and Steering Committees to implement the Centre's strategic priorities
  • honours and nurtures a strong relationship with the Tasmanian Government and builds on the multi-partisan support underpinning the Centre's formation
  • builds productive teams and networks that span local to international scales
  • secures support for educational attainment and aspiration programs and activities
  • leads the Centre's initiatives and its staff and affiliates in their work
