UniStart program is underway at UTAS.
Students eager to get a head-start on their university skills are on campus early for UniStart.
UniStart begins with a five day pre-semester program that introduces students to university life and helps them develop the skills required for success in higher education.
Students attend campus tours and helpful workshops on topics like essay writing, academic reading, critical thinking, referencing and note-taking.
The program is also available fully online for distance students or those who cannot attend.
Anna Hurd, 19, is going into first year Nursing http://www.utas.edu.au/nursing-midwifery/ studies and is taking the UniStart course.
“The holidays have got me out of practice in studying and listening to teachers speak, so I thought I would do UniStart to prepare me and kick me into action again.
“I’ve always been drawn to nursing, really. I like the idea of caring for people, and restoring health and also being able to travel with the job,” she said.
“UniStart has been really good, really informative and I think it has definitely already started to prepare me for the year ahead.”
Sarah Crack, 18, is going into first year Arts http://www.utas.edu.au/arts , focusing on behavioural sciences.
“Behavioural sciences will link me up with social work, which I want to go into.
“UniStart has really kicked me back into listening to people and sitting down for so long!” she said.
“It’s already helped a lot with note-taking; quite a few points covered would benefit me and probably the other people taking UniStart as well.”’
