DESCRIPTION
Students are introduced to basic concepts and theoretical ideas in health psychology, and the contribution of psychology to understanding health and well-being is examined. A framework for understanding health-related behaviours such as disordered eating and substance abuse is also provided. Lectures in rehabilitation psychology examine issues related to vocational, medical, psychiatric and criminal rehabilitation.
In the laboratory component students are introduced to measurement in health psychology, illness as an experience, body image, abnormal appetites and addictions, lifestyle change and the effects of bodily conditions on mental functioning.
