Lectures provide an introduction to the structure, functioning and development of the visual system. The effect of a developmental difference, or an impairment to the visual system, on visual perception is examined in a number of conditions such as recovery from blindness, synesthesia, migraine, visual agnosia, developmental dyslexia, and schizophrenia. These conditions provide the student with an appreciation of the complexity and effortless brilliance of the processes that make visual perception possible.
Laboratory sessions provide demonstrations of visual phenomena and psychophysical methods. Two experiments are conducted that investigate the visual perception of colour, form or motion processing and examine the process of testing theory using experimental methods.
