Q. Where will I study?
A. You will undertake your study on a campus of AMC. Some of your study may be undertaken in UTAS classrooms or labs (at Newnham). Your AMC lecturer will inform you if this is the case.
Q. When I enrol with AMC, will residential accommodation still be available?
A. Yes, residential accommodation will be available at the Newnham and Beauty Point Campuses. All applications and bookings for residential accommodation will be managed by UTAS. For information about 2008 bookings call +61 3 6324 3917.
Q. Is AMC moving?
A. No, you will undertake your studies at AMC at Newnham.
Q. Will my course change?
A. No, AMC will continue to run courses and you will have access to the same great facilities.
Q. When I enrol with AMC will I get an AMC qualification?
A. Yes, all qualifications will have dual AMC and UTAS identification.
Q. Can I still apply to AMC?
A. Some of the application procedures have changed. If you are applying for undergraduate degrees, diplomas and advanced diplomas apply using a UTAS application form, or UTAS online application. VET Coastal Seafarer training courses apply directly to AMC using a VET application form or the AMC online application. For more information about applying for AMC courses, please visit

Q. Will I have access to UTAS facilities?
A. Yes, you will have access to an even wider range of facilities and services. You will be issued with a student ID card which gives you access to both AMC and UTAS facilities.

Q. I want to speak to someone at AMC about my course choice, how can I do that?
A. AMC staff are happy to discuss course options with you. You can free-call 1800 030 277 and you will be put through to a course advisor.
Q. When I get my offer letter what do I do?
A. Your offer letter will outline what you need to do to secure your place at AMC and what to expect on Orientation Day. Orientation Day will include information sessions about your AMC course and the AMC campus. On Orientation Day UTAS will run sessions to inform you about student services and administration.
Q. How do I find out more about student services?
A. AMC and UTAS offer a range of services for students. Details of student services can be found at

Q. Can I gain admission into an AMC course by enrolling in a UTAS preparation program?
A. Yes, always speak with an AMC staff member about enrolling in a preparation program. Staff can help you determine the best pathway for you.
Q. Can I still enrol in the same AMC course?
A. Yes, AMC offers courses in the same disciplines: Maritime Engineering, Maritime & Logistics Management, Marine Environment, and Ocean and Coastal Seafarer Training.
Q. Once I am a student, how do I pay my fees or change my enrolment?
A. UTAS will manage the administration of your study and will contact you from time to time to keep you informed of important administrative matters. UTAS will also invoice you for residential accommodation if you stay on campus and tuition fees if you elect to pay your fees up front. AMC will help you with subject choices and provide information about your course as you progress.
Q. I need to know more about moving to Launceston to study at AMC. Where can I get more information?
A. Accommodation Services at UTAS can assist you with finding accommodation in Launceston. Please call +61 3 6324 3917.
Q. Payments to the Cashier - when does it change?
A. As of Tuesday 13 November the AMC Cashiering function will move to UTAS. This function will be split into two areas i.e. back office processing and over-the-counter payments.
Q. Payments to the Cashier - who is responsible?
A. UTAS Financial Services will be responsible for all back office processing. This will include the following:
- EFTPOS payment by phone, email or mail
- Receipting of direct deposits to the AMC bank account
- Receipting of AMC cheques
- Processing of Beauty Point manual receipts
All back office payments should be forwarded to or taken directly to UTAS Finance for processing. UTAS Finance are located opposite the UTAS Library.
All over-the-counter payments by cash or EFTPOS for students will be made through the UTAS Student Centre. These may include payments for the following:
- AMC Accommodation
- Course Fees
- Fees for Transcripts, replacement ID cards, certificates etc.
Payment for library fines and printing credits should be made directly to the AMC Library. Where possible, students should be encouraged to use the preferred payment methods for accommodation and tuition fees through Smartpay.
