Rhys Edwards

Rhys Edwards was appointed to University Council in January 2007.  Rhys was also appointed Chair of the University’s Finance Committee in January 2016.

Rhys is an experienced organisational leader and has worked at the highest levels of the public service for over 16 years. Rhys was Secretary for the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet for six years from 2008 to 2014. In that role he was also Secretary to Cabinet and the Tasmanian Senior Official for the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).

As Principal of RDME Consulting, Rhys provides advice to Ministers, Heads of Government Departments, Universities as well as undertaking leadership work in the not-for-profit sector.

Rhys has an economics degree from the University of Tasmania and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1992. At Oxford he completed a MSc in Comparative Social Research. Rhys is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Salzburg Global Fellow, and Chair of the Joint Board of Studies for Engineering (UTAS).

Rhys lives in Hobart with his wife Jane and their three children Meg, Ashton and Miles
