  • AARLIN: Australian Academic and Research Library Network
  • AARNet: Australia’s Academic and Research Network
  • ABACUS: A software program for national research benchmarking developed at UTAS
  • ABC: Activity based costing
  • Academic Staff: Teaching & research staff - tutors, associate lecturers, lecturers, associate professors and professors (also postdoctoral fellows)
  • Academic Senate: The University's peak academic committee - advises the Council on academic matters
  • ACROSS: Australian Centre for Research on Separation Science
  • ADC: Anti-Discrimination Commission - State human rights watching
  • ADT: Anti-Discrimination Tribunal - determines appeals from the ADC
  • ALIA: Australian Library and Information Association
  • Alumni: Association representing graduates and former staff of the university
  • AMC: Australian Maritime College. Acronym also means "Australian Medical Council" & ""Academic Misconduct Committee"
  • APA: Australian Postgraduate Award - Commonwealth scholarship for postgraduate study
  • APC: Admissions Policy Committee - a committee of the Academic Senate which is responsible for advising Senate on University entry and admissions policy matters
  • Aspro: Associate Professor
  • Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning): Responsible to the dean of the faculty for providing leadership in teaching and learning and monitoring quality assurance across the faculty.  Chairs the faculty T&L committee

  • By-laws: University legislation made by Council governing the management of University land. Eg parking, advertising, offences etc.

  • CDP: Capital Development Pool

  • CCC: Cradle Coast Campus (campus at Burnie - formerly the North-West Centre)
  • CEC: Campus Emergency Coordinator
  • CEQ: Course Experience Questionnaire
  • Chancellor: Chair of the University Council
  • CHDC: Ceremonial and Honorary Degrees Committee – advises Council on ceremonial matters including graduation ceremonies, academic dress and the awarding of honorary degrees
  • CHESSN: Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number
  • CMR: Crisis Management and Recovery
  • Council: Governing body of the University
  • CODES: Centre for Ore Deposit Research
  • Course: A program of study leading to an award.
  • CPSU: Community and Public Sector Union – the largest general staff union
  • CRC: Co-operative Research Centre – joint venture for research between the University and various industry partners. UTAS is a member of these CRCs –
