Roderick (Rod) Roberts has been on Council since 2000, and appointed Deputy Chancellor in 2006. Mr Roberts is also Chair of the University's Finance Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee.
Mr Roberts was born and raised in Flowerdale. He completed secondary school at Wynyard High and The Friends School before going on to gain a BEc and Certificate of Education from the University of Tasmania, and an MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of NSW, where he won the Schroders Prize for Finance.
Mr Roberts taught with the Tasmanian Education Department at Ulverstone High and the Burnie HSC College before moving into primary industry where he held management roles with Lactos (in Burnie and Sydney), and United Milk Tasmania.
In 1985 he joined the finance industry, first with Deustche Bank becoming responsible for offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Wellington and later Head of Corporate Finance, which included responsibility for offices in New York, London and Australia.
He moved to Salomon Smith Barney in 1988 when he was recruited as Executive Director Corporate Advisory.
His career then took him into the automotive parts business and then, in 1997, into the food, rural and industrial services industry as Managing Director of Webster Limited, Hobart.
Mr Roberts is currently Chairman of Webster Limited; Director Tassal Group Limited, as well as serving as a Director on other private proprietary companies.
Mr Roberts is married to Cecile and they have three adult children – Anita, Thomas and Corinne. |
